Comment on the December 7 prediction: In Michigan, prices reset on Monday to $2.99, exactly as predicted. CORRECT!
Sunday, December 14, 2025, 9 AM: Wholesale prices were steady this past week, with a slight downward bias. So, if we were to get a price hike this week, it would be back to $2.99. However, prices haven’t fallen very much, so I predict that we’ll won’t see a reset and prices will work their way towards $2.69.
The one oddball indicator is, again, Costco, who appear to continue to read my posts lately and want to be ornery. For the Costco on 28th street in Grand Rapids, prices rose this past week, from $2.39 to $2.64, ticking up daily rather than all at once. Recall that I observed on November 30 that Costco prices seem to run higher than normal around the holidays, so I am not using this move as a sign. However, we are about at the point of the year when retail prices bottom out.
Expect my next post near New Year’s Day, with some observations about the revisions to the gas tax in Michigan. Until then, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to our readers! -EA

$2.999s popping up in sw Ohio.
Speedway reset to $2.999 yesterday in Indianapolis area
All quiet in Illinois. A bunch of stations remain 15-30c ABOVE the current price hike target OF $3.09, enough to offset those 10-40c below at least until next week.
Especially with stable costs as we have seen much of this month, Speedway has a tendency to let prices slide over Christmas in IL (and sometimes New Years), even when margins suggest otherwise. I’m expecting the same is quite likely to happen this year.
Loving the failed hike in Grand Rapids right before Christmas. Up to 2.99 on December 23, back down to 2.64 on December 24.
My IL forecast was wrong. They hiked to $3.19 Monday, about 10c more than dealer cost usually warrant.
