Liters of Gasoline?

Sunday, October 4, 2026, 11 AM: I am back from Europe, and observing gas prices there, it has me thinking about the metric system. Since 1 liter is about 0.26 gallons, at what point do Speedway and friends contemplate repricing gasoline in liters? Then, $4.50 per gallon becomes $1.19 per liter, and the Gas Game would return to the year 2002. It won’t change how much we spend on gas, of course. But no one seems to complain about buying 2-liter bottles of Pepsi.

On to current conditions: After that spike in mid-September to $4.99 a gallon, fueled by the on-going war with Iran and refinery issues in the Midwest, prices have been dropping, and I spotted $4.19 yesterday. That seems to be the floor, although our friends at Costco are selling gas for $4.52 this morning. I suspect we’ll get a system-wide reset this week. $4.59? It is difficult to say for sure. -EA
