Comment on the September 21 prediction: For Michigan, CORRECT, as prices ticked lower all week. Indiana saw a reset, but prices have been dropping there since then.
Sunday, September 28, 2025, 3 PM: The good news is that wholesale prices are 20-30 cents lower than a month ago, as we moved away from summer gas blends. This drop has been working its way to retail prices, and I spotted $2.65 a gallon on I-96 near Lansing this morning. But my favorite Costco station hasn’t been in a hurry to cut its prices, asking $2.84 a gallon this afternoon. So, what’s next?
Taking the wholesale drop into account, if there is a price reset, the new price would probably be $2.99. That’s lower than some prices in Michigan, but those poor folks near Portland would experience a 30-cent spike.
I’m leaning towards a reset in the next few days.
Looks like Michigan is going back to $3.29.

Wholesale here is at $1.926, lowest since Christmas. Many stations are still above the reset target. No way a hike would be warranted in IL by the usual calculations,

NW Indiana to $3.29, led by Family Express
Odd it seemed like a reasonably well coordinated hike from 2.89 to 3.29 in Grand Rapids early this week, but some areas dropped back to 2.89 Wed-Thu. Now that Maverik killed K&G then decided to bail out of Michigan just months after opening their first store, suddenly GR has a bunch of Casey’s where K&G used to be. Will they keep prices lower for a while?
