Prices Staying in the $3.09-$3.39 Range

Monday, January 16, 2023, 3PM: Two weeks into the new year, and we have been seeing prices bouncing around between $3.09 and $3.39. The hikes have been in slow-motion, such as the January 1 hike from my last posting that didn’t go universal until the 4th. Last Thursday, it seemed like there was another attempt to reset to $3.39 that many stations just weren’t that interested in. So, where are we now?

Wholesale prices have been ticking up since right before Christmas, and my estimate of the 0-cent margin price today is $3.16. That estimate is usually a squishy floor for prices, and given current prices, there is a case that last week’s attempt at $3.39 will be renewed on Tuesday. I am going to play it safe and fill up tomorrow morning: $3.12 in Allendale or Hudsonville. -EA
