Recipe for A Hike

Comment on the November 29 prediction: Hikes across the board after Thanksgiving weekend, to $2.09, so basically CORRECT.

Wednesday, December 9, 2020, 6PM: Just updated my spreadsheet: wholesale prices rising, gas prices falling, and we are back to where we were over the Thanksgiving weekend, with retailers looking at selling gas for at or below what they paid for it. That is a recipe for a hike, probably a classic Thursday one from Big Red. Back to $2.09-$2.15 it appears. -EA

  1. Two hikes in 5 days in East central Indiana. Went from $1.87 to $2.29.
Wonder if they’ll try to crank out another spike later in the week?

  2. Up a solid .50 in just 5 days in NE IN. Locking in those last minute Christmas profits. Yachts and vacation homes are expensive for the outgoing Speedway execs. Gotta make up for the covid shutdowns early in the year.

  3. I’m almost convinced we are set for another spike to start out the week…some of the stations here are down to a mere 16 or 17 cents over the spike line.

  4. South Bend IN – Speedway went from $2.15 yesterday to $2.35 today. SBN avg 2.18. Costco 2.03.
    Last few spikes: 12-10 Thu = $2.09, 12-15 Tu = $2.25 & 12-21 Mo = $2.35. So from $1.85 to $2.35 in 11 days.

Niles MI – No change in Niles yet. $2.04 @ Speedway. $2.01 at WMT.

  5. $2.35 starting in NW Indy. Thorntons jumped to $2.15 from $1.95 in town but I expect them to jump again to meet Speedway.
