Under the Tree: A Big Hike

Comment on the December 9 prediction: The prediction was CORRECT for Indiana, but WRONG for other states. So, I will score it as WRONG.

Monday, December 221, 2020, Noon: Winter is here, and so is a stinking pile of higher prices for gasoline today. I had planned a posting this afternoon, expecting a hike Tuesday or Wednesday, but this time they could not wait. Powering this hike is a continued uptick in oil prices, which leads to higher wholesale gas prices. Of course, today, those markets are selling off now that the hike is here, which happens often enough that there ought to be a way to make money off of it. So, $2.35 it is in Michigan, the highest since February. Let’s hope that’s the last hike for 2020. -EA

  1. Yep, Thorntons joined in with Speedway, going from $2.15 from their first spike this morning to $2.35 across the board except for the one on East Washington but they will change soon enough, that station never lingers for long.

  2. I think the Toledo area Grinch was probably GREEDway as usual, which may have spiked yesterday evening after the commute, since I don’t recall seeing the $2.299 on the marquee of my local GREEDway yesterday morning, and the price guarantee wasn’t active today, and the rest of the area spiked to $2.299 today.

  3. This hike from Speedway had the sharpest response and has stuck better than any in several months. Gasbuddy average hasn’t budged down since Wednesday.

  4. Gasbuddy’s Chicago region average has been flat since the day after the last hike on December 21st! Cheapest around here is $2.20. No need to fill any time soon. I can wait for the bottom

  5. Speedway leading the charge back up to $2.35 across Indiana. On an aside, heard on the radio this morning that GasBuddy is projecting gas at $3plus this year. Oh goody….
