Saturday, August 18, 2018, 5PM: Since our last posting, oil prices have dropped about 5%, and so have wholesale gas prices, dropping our hike worry line about 10 cents. With prices in the $2.60’s in parts of Grand Rapids, that would put us in price hike territory. But, oddly, the stations that I track along Lake Michigan Drive are still above $2.90. In the end, I think we do see a reset this week, to $2.99, but it might not be until Thursday. -EA
Tuesday will be hike day in Chicagoland with the latest 3.67 cent rise in spot. We have Speedway at $2.42 and Murphy and Delta Sonic down to $2.39 in Joliet. About a 30 cent a gallon loss on every sale.

More stations in the last several price cycles are bucking the trend and wait a day or more to spike prices in Indiana. Nice if the spike catches you off guard. Several still in the $2.50s per gasbuddy after yesterday’s spike to $2.99
Muted response and rapid retreat from last Wednesday’s hike has us back on the doorstep of another today in northeast IL 🙁
I totally missed the last spike and need to use a 50 cent Kroger discount before the end of the month. What’s been happening in the spot market? The prices at some Mid-Michigan locations have fallen back pretty quickly, but they’re still 12-20 cents higher than before last week’s spike at most stations.
Many stations in Indy have gone down to 2.59 today. Unsure why, but I’m keeping full until Tuesday morning.
Lots of stations in the Bowling Green, Ky area are $2.39.
