Gas Game Writer Puzzled By Recent Michigan Price Dynamics

Comment on the September 15 post: Well, that was WRONG and very puzzling. Back on the 15th, we saw hikes in states adjacent to Michigan, and an uptick in RBOB. We eventually had a hike on September 23.

Sunday, September 26, 2021, 4PM: So, what’s next? As I fussed about two weeks ago, “September is usually the time when they put ‘summer gas’ on clearance, and hikes are resisted”. Apparently that was only true in Michigan, until this hike to $3.25 on Thursday. (And even higher in the Forest Hill area.) Going into Monday, we have oil and ethanol near their highs for the year, and of course, gas prices. Short-term, hunt around for bargains, like $2.99 at some stations in Walker that missed the price hike memo last Thursday. Meanwhile, we continue to monitor the situation. -EA

  1. Back to $3.45/3.55 in Chicagoland today. Fall means falling prices??

  2. 3.29 in NW Indiana, lead by Family Express.

  3. 3.39 in NW Indiana, Family Express in the lead

  4. $3.299 in Indy area on 10/4 afternoon

  5. Odd Speedway behavior in Illinois. Speedway app showed a $3.69 hike in Cook County by early afternoon but in all the surrounding counties no hike. Can’t figure this one out but would certainly expect the hike to become more universal, especially after yet another day of up futures’ markets. Should be $3.59-3.65 for those of use in the surrounding counties.

  6. 3.39 hike stopped Flints flirtation with 3 bucks
