The Summer Gas Clearance Begins

Comment on the August 29 prediction: Mostly CORRECT. Prices reset early in the week before Labor Day, but to $3.19, not $3.09.

Sunday, September 12, 2021, 5PM: Readers know I work at Grand Valley State University, and the gas stations on M-45 have been the ones I use the most for my calculations and predictions. Right now, though, they aren’t competing with each other, and prices have been stuck at $3.19 for almost two weeks. Elsewhere, prices are lower, with the best deals in Sparta right now ($2.79), which is often the case. While wholesale prices have barely budged this month, September is usually the time when they put “summer gas” on clearance, and hikes are resisted. Putting this all together, I am predicting no hike the next few days, so try to fill up under $3. Maybe things will look different at the end of the week. -EA

  1. $3.259 Indy area Greedway hike.

  2. 3.29 NW INDIANA, led by Family Express

  3. $3.159 popping up in Ohio yesterday pm (Tuesday). So much for that fire sale.
